Dolby Atmos - Industry visits

AMP students were invited to the Dolby Film School recently for a demonstration of their Dolby Atmos format, a spectacular experience of the mixing techniques used in films such as The Life of Pi and Gravity. Examples of other work was also presented, including some groundbreaking Atmos mixes of the likes of Ellie Goulding and Imagine dragons live. Further to this, students paid avisit to a leading Dolby atmos mixing facility in Soho, at Warner Bros De Lane Lea. Operations manager Mike King provided a rare glimpse inside the world famous Stage1, where soundtracks on titles such as Wonderwoman and Early Man have been mixed to completion, not to mention many of the recent Bond films such as Spectre and Quantum of Solace.
AMP graduate Mark Timms (now studio assistant at De Lane Lea) was also on hand to demonstrate
the phenomenal studio facilities here.

New Music Rehearsal Space at Bucks

It’s great to see work on the new Music Rehearsal space finishing this week, and the results look pretty impressive!  You can take a virtual tour of the space too at http://www2.bucks.ac.uk/virtualtours/music_rehearsal_studio_W12

The room was commissioned to support students on the  Music Performance Management Degree in the Dept of Music & Live Events Management.  Kitted out with a brand new  Yamaha Drum Kit, Fender and Ampeg Amps, Mackie PA and Shure Microphones, it should be the perfect space to practice.  Whilst module and course related bookings will take priority,  we’re keen for other Music & Events Management and Audio & Music Production students to make use of any empty slots too.   Bookings will start in the new year and will be handled by Media Resources.  We’ll let you know more about the bookings process and how it’ll work in January , just as soon as all the core course bookings are loaded up.

As part of the Induction Week activity within the Department of Media Production we will be visited by Yellow Fish (http://www.yellowfishmusicgroup.com), who will bring their mobile recording studio for students to take a look around before taking part in a Q&A with the team that runs the facility.

The unit will park on the concourse at the High Wycombe campus from mid-morning on Wednesday 24th, with the Q&A in the event to follow in Gateway Lecture Theatre from 13.00. Anyone from Bucks would be very welcome to attend.
The unit has been used by many noteworthy performers, with recent clients including Chris De Burgh, Roger Daltrey, Wilko Johnson, The Strypes (UK album chart number 5, iTunes blues chart number 1), The Pretty Things and Brian Eno. The mobile also worked on the One Direction movie last year.
